Tuesday, May 7th - sightseeing with Zawakeys

Today the Zawakeys picked us up so we could go downtown and pick up Elder Murdock's suit that he had made (with big five game material as the lining). We are taking Elder Murdock's suit to him when we go to Swaziland this weekend. The Zawakeys wanted to show us around to their favorite spots before they left. We went to Victoria's market again, parked and then walked across the street to go get the suit. We were told that walking downtown was not a good idea. There are hundreds of people on the streets selling everything from food to bras (no kidding...some guy laid out a black garbage bag on the sidewalk and started pulling new bras from a bag and throwing them down on the garbage bag, all sizes and colors..Ha). The Zawackeys seemed unconcerned and said they had never had a problem and indeed we did not have any problems. Of course, we then visited Victoria's market again and she showed me all these stores upstairs that I didn't know about where there was even better stuff at better prices!!!!! Big fun. I bought a really cool African reversible silk skirt for $15 and a painted large big game tablecloth for $20. It really is fun shopping here.

Zawackeys then took us to lunch in the white section of town that was the opposite of downtown, near our Hillcrest Chapel at a place called Oscar's that had really good food. I had a roasted pear, blue cheese, candied pecan salad...YUM! We also tried the Nachos and they were hard to explain...Ha.

They then took us on a drive to show us some of the areas they visited doing their seminary and Institute training and the areas were so beautiful, that they are hard to describe. I saw this video on YouTube that has some of the areas we saw. These are all in Duban and it looked even prettier in person, as you can see by these photos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylVmDuPcNmI

Every area they drove through was amazing and the people that live there are in modest homes walking up these hills to get to their homes and little kids getting out of school trying to get us to give them rides up the hills. Amazing. The children all wear uniforms to school and look so cute in their nice clothes. We handed out suckers that the Zawakeys brought and their faces lit up...very fun.

After we got home, we got back to work. Our PA guy from Cape Town called, so we had to help him get some paperwork straightened out and answer several new emails. Tonight we watched the last session of General Conference. It was great and we are finally done with all of Conference. It was so good that we may watch them all again. A very good day.
