Wednesday, May 8th - postoffice, mother's day gift

Well, we went to pick up a package from my daughter today at the post office. They said that it was too heavy to deliver on the card they left, but when we picked it up, it was so light it was actually funny. We had our usual adventure driving in Africa. We used the GPS, but went to the wrong Post Office. We met a woman there who asked if we were from America. She sounded very British, but she said she was from America too....Phoenix, AZ to be exact. We keep meeting people from our home town. She had a baby on her back, a toddler in her arms and a six year old at her side...all boys.  She wasn't fazed a bit when they got unruly. She just said they were so much fun. Isn't that great? She also said that she was starting to pick up an accent. We laughed and said, "You're not starting. You have definitely crossed over to the other side." Ha.

Then we tried to go to the other post office, but made a wrong turn. We finally got there... It was in a mall. We had no problem getting it. On our way back, we got lost again and ended up going a different way. The GPS told us to make a left turn and we were sure that was wrong, but after we made the turn we discovered we were on the main street that goes to the street where our flat is if we turn right and the mission office if we turn left. We looked at each other and said, We made it! ha. We then turned left and went to the Mission office to drop off the Conference DVDs that we borrowed and chat with the missionaries for awhile. They all seemed jealous that we are free while they are in an office all day...If they only knew...Ha. We ended up back at our place and I opened my Mother's Day gift. You would not believe the cute cards I got from the Twins, with their own writing on them and three hearts decorated and written on. We hung them up right away. The only bad thing about a mission is missing your children and grandchildren. How lucky we are to be able to communicate regularly and receive sweet things in the mail (I even got black beans, corn tortillas and ground oregano along with thoughtful gifts which shall remain secret). A Mexican fiesta is in our future! Ha.

We had a conference call from the area office in Johannesburg...We used Skype, so we could see everyone, as if we were there. The only problem was the sound which we had to continually adjust. We discussed the David Glen Hatch concert in August. Durban is the only area where we do not have a venue booked, so we talked about that and about perhaps having it in a stake center. To me that is a last resort, because it is easier to bring nonmember friends if it isn't in a church, but everything seems to be booked, so we may have to go with the stake center, but parking is an issue everywhere here. He is going to do concerts in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town. We spent the rest of the afternoon looking for other options for the concert here and came up empty handed. Searching for anything on the internet in Africa is frustrating, because their internet is just not as developed as the US, so searches bring up unsatisfactory results or results not rated to the subject searched for.

We are also trying to get ready for our trip to Swaziland, so more fun coming up!
